About Us

Jeanne Lybecker is the creator of Exploring Books for Children.  Jeanne has been in the field of education and children's literature for over 35 years. She taught young children for 7 years in the Portland Public Schools Head Start program.  In 1975, she obtained her Master's  in Early Childhood Education and as her master's thesis wrote a book entitled PARENTS ARE TEACHERS, TOO!.  In marketing her book, she saw a need for early childhood teacher resources and formed a mail order company, Early Childhood Bookhouse.  Along with the mail order business, Jeanne started a children's bookstore in Portland, Oregon and in 1982 purchased a second store, Book Barn for Children in Beaverton.  She has taught children's literature at both Pacific University and Portland State University.  In 1991, she went to work for her friend Jean Warren, creator of the Totline Books, as editor of a quarterly newsletter which focused on reviewing children's literature for teachers and parents.  She currently tutors children in reading in the Beaverton School District and adults in ESL at Portland Community College.  Jeanne, also, acts as a consultant to teachers and librarians and enjoys bringing authors and illustrators of kid's books to the Portland area to talk to children in elementary schools.

Jeanne's life has became totally devoted to children's literature and the importance of early childhood literacy.  Thus, with her expertise in literacy and extensive knowledge and love of children's literature, you have the beginning of the website Exploring Books for Children.  WELCOME!!
